You can go out with a whimper, or you can go out with a bang.
Matt Shubert went out with a bang.
Shubert averaged 19 points per game over the last three games of his college career, which earned him Liberty League Performer of the Week honors.
A senior from West Chester, Pa., Shubert has now won the award twice - after the first week of the conference season, and after the last week of the conference season. The common thread between the two awards is obvious - game-winning shots in victories over rival Vassar College.
Back on Jan. 10, Shubert made two free throws with three seconds left to help Bard beat Vassar, 59-57, for the first time since 1995. He finished with 27 points in that game.
Last Tuesday, Shubert hit a baseline jumper with 38 seconds left that beat Vassar, 56-55. He finished that game with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots, including a crucial block in the final seconds.
On Friday against Hobart, Shubert scored 15 points, and on Saturday he went 9-for-12 from the field and finished with a career-high 29 points in an overtime loss to RIT.
Shubert played two seasons at Bard and averaged 15.5 points per game, leading the team in scoring for both seasons. He finished this season as the third-leading scorer in the league.
The Liberty League All-Conference basketball teams will be announced later this week.
