The Bard College Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the second annual Special Olympics Day on Sunday, with guests from Astor Services for Children & Families in Rhinebeck, the Anderson Center for Autism in Staatsburg, and the Devereaux in Red Hook.
Sunday's festivities were planned by SAAC and overseen by Bard men's basketball coach/assistant athletic director Adam Turner.
Stations were set up at different locations in the Stevenson Athletic Center and outside for volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis, lacrosse, track and field, and athletic training. Each visitor was given a passport, and a sticker was awarded for each completed station. At the end of the day, those visitors who completed every station successfully were given a prize.
Approximately 5-6 Bard student-athletes were posted at each station, teaching the fundamentals of each activity and enjoying some quality time with their new friends.
"We had a lot more students involved, and a lot more visitors and staff taking part than last year," Turner said. "It was a huge turnout and we all had a tremendous time. It think it'll even be bigger and better next year."
